Medical clearance: Traveling with Air France

In most cases, medical clearance is not required for travel with Air France.

When should I consult a doctor before traveling?

Air France recommends consulting your doctor before traveling if you:

  • are currently receiving medical treatment
  • have a chronic illness
  • have recently been hospitalized or have had surgery
  • have venous insufficiency
  • are pregnant

Situations requiring medical approval from Air France

A medical clearance issued by the Air France medical service is required in the following cases:

  • contagious disease*
  • transport by stretcher or incubator
  • request for oxygen supply at a flow rate exceeding 2.8 liters per minute
  • a health condition requiring unusual medical assistance during the flight*

* A recent medical certificate from your attending physician or the airport physician is also accepted.

Important: Medical clearance must be given shortly before your trip to ensure that the information is valid. Please keep the agreement and medical certificate with you throughout your journey.

How to obtain medical clearance for travel

To obtain approval from Air France’s Medical Service, please complete this form, which consists of two parts:

  • Complete the first part of the form yourself. Our assistance service or your travel agency can help you with this process.
  • Your attending physician must complete the second part of the form.

Send the completed form to Air France no later than 48 hours before your departure, to the email address indicated on the form.

Our Medical Service will review your request and confirm whether you meet the conditions required to travel.

For any questions, you may contact our teams.

Casts or immobilized limbs

If you are traveling with a cast or an immobilized limb, certain arrangements may be necessary to ensure your comfort and safety during the flight.

If you are unable to travel seated in an upright position, for example if the casted limb must remain lying flat or extended, you will need to contact our assistance service at least 48 hours  before your flight’s departure in order to book the appropriate space.

  • On medium-haul flights, booking an additional seat is required.
  • On long-haul flights, a seat in the Business cabin is required.

Our assistance service  can help you  with the necessary arrangements.
