Manchester Airport: an amazing selection of destinations

Manchester Airport boasts more non-stop destinations than almost any other UK airport – over 190 direct flights are available to scores of different countries. It’s not surprising MAN has more passengers than any airport outside London – almost 28 million in 2017. Amsterdam and Dubai, with their numerous connections to onward flights, were the top two routes, with Dublin and Alicante placed third and fourth. The Paris Charles de Gaulle route saw one of the biggest gains in passenger traffic in 2017 – over 10%. Air France and partner airline Flybe’s flights to this, the French national carrier’s hub airport, enables Mancunians to link into an airport that serves more countries than any other international airport – over 100 in total, thanks in part to the Air France network to over 200 destinations.

Did you know?

If you’re on a flight leaving from Manchester Airport, you may not know that the airport recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the airport has purchased 80 Oak trees to give away to local community groups and charities.

Manchester is reputed to be the city in Europe where the highest number of different languages are spoken (on a per capita basis). At least 150 different tongues are spoken here, which compares with much larger cities like London and Paris.

Manchester Airport is just over 8 miles southwest of the city centre. There are three different passenger terminals. Access is from exit 5 on the M56 via the Airport Spur. Parking may be pre-booked at the multi-storey, mid stay, long stay or jet park car parks, the latter two being served by a free shuttle bus.

Manchester Airport Railway station is linked to the terminals by a moving walkway, providing a direct connection to the UK’s rail network. The journey to the airport from Manchester Piccadilly takes about 20 minutes and trains run frequently (up to 8 an hour), 7/7. The Metrolink’s Airport line also runs from the city centre to the airport via Wythenshawe.

Multiple local bus routes, including the 19, 43, 103, 199, 288, 330 and 368A serve the airport at varying time intervals.
