Brazil and the Carnival

People enjoy the carnival everywhere in Brazil, but naturally the best known is the Rio de Janeiro carnival. By tradition, the carnival takes place 47 days before Easter. An incredible festive atmosphere takes hold of the second largest city in the country. During the Rio carnival, everything is extravagantly festive. The costumes are lavish and the city's Samba schools spend the entire year preparing to parade along the Marquês de Sapucai Avenue, also known as the Sambodromo. Brazil and its remarkable beaches

Brazil counts no fewer than 7 500 kilometres of coastline with many beaches, each trying to outdo the others with its beauty. The most famous is undoubtedly the Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. The New Year celebrations are unforgettable: a relaxed atmosphere with dancing on the beach all night long. No need to fear the cold: Brazil is located in the southern hemisphere and the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere. Rio's other emblematic beach is Ipanema. If you prefer more natural beaches, don't miss Bombinhas, in the south of Brazil: plenty of opportunities for diving and ecology! Finally, if you're looking for paradisiacal beaches, head for the south-west of Brazil, around the city of Ilhabela and its breath-taking islands.

Unspoilt, natural Brazil

Far from the frenzied atmosphere of the cities, Brazil also offers travellers an exceptional natural break. Among the many unmissable sites in the country are the Iguaçu falls, located on the border between Brazil and Argentina. They are among the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, stretching out over more than two kilometres and surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. And on the subject of vegetation, how can we mention Brazil without talking about the Amazon Basin, comprising the Amazon River and its mythic forest. The Amazon Basin covers no less than 60 % of the Brazilian territory! Set out to meet the inhabitants of the forest, discover its unusual flora and fauna and navigate the rivers stopping at cities such as Macapá, a city built on the equator or Manaus and Belem.
