Discovering Spain

With no fewer than 17 autonomous communities, Spain offers its visitors a wide variety of different cultures. The cost of living is reasonable, and the inhabitants very welcoming: don't hesitate to ask your way or to start up a conversation in a café.

The major cities such as Barcelona, in the north of the country, Madrid, in the centre, Seville and Grenada, to the south, mustn't be missed. You can shop or just wander around and admire the architecture. Note that most shops do not open before 4 PM, and restaurants do not generally serve dinner before 8 PM. We suggest that you adopt the Spanish way of life and enjoy of the excitement which keeps the city alive until late at night. Tapas bars, cafés, restaurants and nightclubs… there's something for everyone. Those who enjoy festivities will take an Air France flight to Ibiza. This small island in the Baleares, located in the Mediterranean, is famous for its unbelievable nightclubs.

Spain, a country with a rich and varied cultural heritage

Spain is also home to Velasquez, Goya, Dali, Miro… In Barcelona, art lovers can admire the fascinating Sagrada Familia cathedral by the architect Gaudi or visit the Picasso museum.

And don't miss the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao or the Prado in Madrid. In the south of the country, you will enjoy the jewels of Mozarabe art, such as the Alhambra, a Moorish palace located in Grenada, or the Cordoba Mosque.

Spain is also a country which appreciates music: don't leave without having seen an exhibition of dancing. Each region has its own tradition (fandango, flamenco, paso doble…), but the jota is known throughout the country.

Sporting activities in Spain

Spain offers many opportunities to practise open-air sports. On the beach, surfers will head for the beautiful Santander bay. They will be thrilled with the tall waves of the Atlantic ocean. Swimmers and those who just want to relax will prefer the Mediterranean coast. The Costa Brava, north-east of Catalogne, includes several seaside resorts. In the south, the Costa del Sol has become a major Andalusian tourist site. You can practise diving, wind-surfing and jet-ski.

Walkers will appreciate the magnificent mountains of the Sierra Nevada. There are also several skiing resorts open in winter. Or why not set out along the road to Santiago de Compostela ?

And finally, several regions in Spain offer an introduction to flying, rock-climbing, parachuting and wall climbing.
