Southampton Airport (SOU) was used by just over 2 million passengers in 2017, placing it 18th in the rankings of busiest UK airports. There are non-stop flights to over 35 different destinations across Europe, with French and Spanish cities taking a prominent place, although Amsterdam and Edinburgh were the two most popular routes in 2017. If you’re on a flight leaving from Southampton Airport, you might have seen a reminder of a little piece of aeronautical history that took place here on March 5th, 1936. A replica of the first prototype Spitfire, which performed its initial test flight from this airport, stands at the entrance to SOU.

Southampton Airport is just 4 miles from Southampton city centre – a journey that can take as little as 10 minutes in light traffic. It’s located just off junction 5 of the M27, very close to the southern end of the M3. Short stay, priority and meet-and-greet parking are all just minutes’ walk from the terminal, while the long-stay car park is a 5-minute shuttle bus ride.
Southampton Airport Parkway station is just 1 minute’s walk to the actual terminal building. The journey from the city centre takes just 6 to 11 minutes. On weekdays, there are 100 trains a day to the airport.
The U1A and U1E buses run from NOCS to the Airport Parkway Station in 50 to 60 minutes, as often as every 10 minutes. The Xelabus X4 operates between Eastleigh and Hedge End, via the Parkway Station, Monday to Sunday. From Hedge End to the airport takes around 35 minutes. Checker Cars are the airport’s ‘on-site’ cab firm – rides can be pre-booked.
